It is interesting just to read the businesses located in downtown Las Vegas at the time

when Las Vegas was just a very small town. This is 5 years before gambling was legalized in Nevada.

This is what the Las Vegas Pharmacy at 32 Fremont Street looked like at about the time this directory was published. Today that location is in the process of another renovation as the old Las Vegas Club expands down the street and engulfs the former Mermaids which was the last casino to be located at

32 Fremont.

As I was looking at the ads in the phone directory I noticed the one above for the Western Service Garage and it looked like the word CARDNERCAR was in the ad. I had never heard that name and was not sure what it was. I was intrigued so I did a Google search and came up with GARDNERCAR. Then a couple of hours disappeared as I read about the Gardner Motor Company of St. Louis, MO.

Keep in mind that this is not a site about automobiles and I am not an automobile enthusiast. However, reading old newspapers and old advertisements is entertaining to me. Just be glad I didn't add a whole bunch of clippings about the Gardner Motor Company. Feel free to Google it and waste some time, too!
