The photo below shows that the Log Cabin Bar was open in 1940. Gaming there may have come along later since Fullers Index Plus, shows that the Log Cabin Bar at 122 N. 1st Street in downtown Las Vegas was licensed for Keno from 1944 through January 12, 1956. It continued as a bar with business listings in directories through 1961 and perhaps later.
In an article on unclaimed income tax refunds published in the Nevada State Journal on February 2,1952 George and Leora Baker with the Log Cabin Bar, Las Vegas were listed as having a refund for taxes paid in 1947 due to them. It did not elaborate on whether they were employees or principals in the business.
The article stated,
| "These persons are those to whom federal checks, have been mailed, but for one reason or another have been returned to the Internal Revenue Department, unclaimed" |
The names Frosty Shaw and Bob Griggs appear on the matchbook to the left.
Below is the same view of N. 1st Street 60 years apart.
